Website in order to attract heavy targeted traffic needs to be user friendly and have a gimmicking look and on one hand and search engine friendly on other. User friendliness helps to increase the number of your returning visitors developing users trust and loyalty towards you. The other end of the discussion ie search engine friendliness means that your site must contain food for search engine spiders, bots and crawlers etc.

Bringing the both ends of friendliness together is a little complex, but none too difficult. Good know how of tastes, choices, preferences and interests of different age groups and genders help identifying the sort of design your visitors can be attracted to. For instance teens like bright colors, cool colors attract the attention of people above, almost all age groups love smooth and simple navigation etc. And knowledge of strategies search engines use to crawl different pages index and rank them etc can help building a site in a way that attains good amount of organic traffic. For instance, search engine spider doesn't see a page as a human visitor does instead it reads from source code; it doesn't read java script and frames, loves text content, doesn't like too many links etc.

It reveals that good design alone doesn't ensure the success instead it works well in combination with good code. A site with good design and not so good code can have difficulty in becoming a search engine friendly site. This fact requires incorporation of structural website design. There can be other factors determining the success of a website design, ie niche, natures of website, complexity of the software or systems it's using and above all the budget, and they all vary, but the user friendliness and search engine friendliness are the requirements of almost all type of websites, so are of utmost importance. And thus one should make sure that all these ends are given proper attention, and in case if you're hiring a freelance designer, do discuss the structural elements of website designing with him.

Social media experts are everywhere and there are many varying opinions on what's ahead in the constantly changing landscape.

In this post we're going to look at setting your goals based on what you've done so far and how you should adjust it so you're getting the most out of your content marketing.

If you've never taken stock of your social media or set goals, then this is the article for you.

It's important to measure the successes and failures honestly and to set your ego aside and admit that some of what you did may have been wasted effort.

For tips on how to improve your social media try our article: How to Incorporate Content Marketing into Twitter

1. Check Your Reports

Do you keep reports? You definitely should so you can assess the efficacy of what you spent time putting online. A report can look any way you want but if you need direction Smartsheet has a free social media report template to get you started.

Look for metrics like engagement instead of impressions. With impressions and low clicks, you're doing more harm than good. Look at how your content performed and create categories for it all.

This information is like your potential leads all telling you what they liked or didn't. Take that into account when planning out 2018's content.

Each social media platform offers free analytics on the profile's performance, so you can see what you've shared that resonated and what fell flat. Look for patterns and topics that show users had consistent interest in something you can then repeat.

You can even take the step of starting paid promotion for your business if you're up for a challenge!

2. Study Your Website Analytics

Google Analytics is a great free tool provided by Google that is essential to planning your social media in 2018. Why? This is where you find out how much of what you did actually drove traffic to your business.

If you do have it set up, then check your Acquisition section for Social and then Network Referrals. You'll be able to see the past year by selecting the previous year as the date range.

This will show you just how many people have clicked on your social media posts and landed on your website.

This won't matter when it comes to what you shared but it does matter if you've done posting that points people toward your website.

You should always incorporate some sales-oriented messaging that shows your client's your business so while you don't want to be a serial self promoter you don't want to be absent any self promotion entirely.

3. Set Your Goals

The first two steps should give you an understanding of where you are and now it's time to take that information and plan where you're going.

What drew clicks? What got shared? What worked and what didn't?

If something looks off and is clearly not working then assess whether your time would be better spent elsewhere. Another issue might be the audience of a platform dwindling. Genuinely look out for platforms that have lost their audience because, while rare, it has happened in the past.

Are you spending a lot of time posting to Facebook? Try putting some of that effort into Instagram if your target market is also on that platform. On average the approximate Instagram brand follower growth is 6 – 8% per month. You may not be able to recreate that, but you should see some solid numbers if you're posting good images regularly.

When were your posts most effective? Pinterest trends show increased usage in the summer and around Christmas with spring and fall seeing big dips. Look at your reports and if you used Pinterest see if your stats align with this. Plan a posting schedule so you know when what you post will have the most effect.

When you set your goals keep in mind you may not attain them and that's fine. As long as what you're doing is honest then you're in better shape than most.

Post genuine content about your business and share content you see as having sincere value to people interested in what you do. You'll not only grow your followers and friends, but you'll grow them with people who have value to more than the possible optics of high numbers on a profile.

The most important stat is your bottom line. You are spending your time marketing yourself on social media for a reason and if you have professional social media experts helping you then you're spending your money too.

Your main goal out of all of it is: did this help my business? If the answer is no, then take into account that your previous goals (or a lack of them) were incorrect.

Don't fret doing any of this by the way. The biggest mistake you can make is to allow this to become a chore rather than a positive part of your business. When you're enjoying yourself, you'll find you share better content and you convey that emotion through to potential clients, which is much better than putting out a perception that you're agitated.

Social Media is an important platform for marketing of any size of the business in today's digital era. The question "Why should we use social media for our business" quickly shifted to "How should we use social media for our business". Whether your business is 24 hours old or 24 years old, creating an online presence is very important. Marketing yourself well on social media needs a very strong strategy and there comes the real challenge. First of all, let me explain what exactly strategy is. It is a well planned tactical strategy to define the main aim of your social media presence, your goals and to set parameters deciding what to achieve and how to achieve. Today we will learn how you should plan your social media strategy in few simple steps:

Set your Objectives & Goals

First of all you need to specify your goals and objectives. What exactly do you aim for? Do you want brand awareness, customer engagement or you want conversions? There are different strategies for different goals. Decide what you want from your audience. If you want brand awareness then you have to focus on attracting more and more unique visitors to your website. If you aim for customer engagement then your focus should be getting more comments & likes on your social media posts. Keep your goals clear in your mind before planning your strategy. The major goal ideas are basically:

  1. Brand Awareness
  2. Customer Engagement
  3. Lead Generation
  4. Generate Revenue
  5. Grow Signups, newsletters, subscriptions
  6. Build a Community
  7. More Traffic to your Website
  8. Increase Press Mentions

Audit your current Social Presence

Before you start with your plan; start with auditing yourself where your social presence stands currently. Keep the following points in mind:

  1. Check which media you are currently active on
  2. Decide if it is the best social media as per your business goals. Not all social media works for all kind of businesses.
  3. Keep a note of your current followers count.
  4. Compare your profile with your competitors' profile and see what all changes you need to implement.

Find your Ideal Customer

You really need to be specific with this part. Imagine you are doing your marketing with all the planning, consistency and dedication but if the audience that you are targeting is not your potential customers then there is no point of all that hard work. Even the best business marketing strategies fail if you are targeting the wrong audience. You need to find out your buyer persona from the population and target them to make your strategies work and ultimately achieve your goals.

Keep an eye on your Competitors

It is very important to be well aware with your competitors. Your competitors can tell you a lot about what strategies to pick and what all to do, after all they are targeting the same customers as you are. You can learn a lot from their successes and mistakes and implement them while planning your strategies. Pick some of your top competitors, check their social media pages and get an idea about the posts that are getting more engagements and research them.

Plan Your Content

It is very important to have an attractive and engaging content in order to drive audience's attention. If the content that you are posting on your social media is not engaging enough then you may not drive enough attention and you may even lose your current followers. You need to deliver fresh and engaging content consistently to get more visibility from new visitors and retain existing followers.

The different types of contents that you can share are:

  1. Blog Posts
  2. Videos
  3. Images
  4. Infographics
  5. Company News
  6. News
  7. eBooks

Invest in a Tool

When Focussing on social media, investing in a good social media management tool is very important. The main feature and benefit of such tool is that it lets you schedule posts for future so you never miss your deadline and you can schedule post as per your content calendar. Some of the tools are HootSuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, Social Oomph etc.

Track, Analyze & Optimize

Now when you have planned everything then comes the step where you need to measure whether the efforts that you are putting is paying off. It is time to track, analyze and implement necessary changes as required. Marketing is solely based on trial & error. You need to keep on optimizing your measures to improve your chances of success.

Companies from Fortune 500-size to startups use mobile applications to target customers, streamline their processes, provide a service or, increasingly, as the backbone of their entire business. While there is currently a strong push for mobile-first (or even mobile-only) within the business ecosystem, there are a few things to consider before hiring the developer or writing the check.

Here are five things to consider before kicking off a mobile app project:

Identify your users: Is this app internally-facing or external (meaning customers will see it)? Who are the people using the app and what are the demographics? Who will serve as the admin who can add / delete users and data? Without drilling closely into this question, you might waste money building for whom you think is your user and not who your real target audience is. Don't fall victim to this – early in the brainstorm process, get all key stakeholders in a room for a discovery workshop to hash out requirements and agree on direction.

Research your competition: If you are moving into a crowded space, building a matrix of your competitors can be very helpful in building an app of your own. Identify what you like and don't like about their applications – and why. Read their customer reviews and find out how users feel about the apps and what they are lacking. Then, see if that is something you can capitalize on.

What problem does my app solve? Maybe you are building an extension of your e-commerce website onto a mobile platform. Perhaps you want to take advantage of the features a phone provides like location, push notifications, and onsite photos in a new way. But beware – if your app isn't going to enhance your existing business or present a unique interaction with users, really take some time to consider the money and time you are about to spend.

Native or Hybrid? For fast proof-of-concepts or simple data entry applications, a hybrid platform like Phonegap or Ionic might be the right choice. This option lets a development team save time by writing only one codebase that works for both iOS and Android. However, if you're envisioning a more complex app, consider spending the extra time for native development, meaning a different build for the different operating systems of iOS and Android. This allows the app to utilize the latest features of a native-only experience, such as Apple Pay, rich push notifications, Android Pay and TouchID. These all let the developer and client utilize the innovation happening in our pockets and purses. Furthermore, in general, native apps see better mobile behavior and research shows are more accepted by users. However, the cost and time to market difference may be worth a discussion.

Plan for post launch: Okay, you have a great idea and the plan is in place. What happens after you launch? How will you gather and respond user feedback? Who will make changes for incremental releases – the original build team or someone in-house? And realize that mobile phones change often, with new functionality added every few months. An app is different in that, unlike a website, you can't make changes on the fly. Setting a plan with a release schedule to add features, make changes and continually provide a reason for users to open the app will help you be successful once you release your new mobile baby to the wild.

As I drove through town earlier I saw a sign for a local monogram shop and a banner that said "Find us on Facebook". Although I do not know the owners I was very proud of them (and I might add I am a fan of their page on Facebook).

That really made me start thinking about the retail industry and social media – How can a local retail store or local service provider find success with social media?

I must say I have several friends that own retail stores and can't seem to wrap their minds around how beneficial social media can be for them.

It seems to me that the problem is that as a retail business owner you are focused on closing the sale when someone walks into your store. Building a relationship with that person to get them to buy later is a secondary issue. Not that this is bad, this is the way it has been done for a very long time. I know, I was raised in my grandfathers grocery store.

Can a retail store make sales on social media? Yes, but that should not be the main focus. Before I go on you may be wondering how a retail store can make a sale on social media – you could have a products page on your Facebook Fan Page which displays items and has an order now button, you could tweet about new items and include a link to your website where they can order, you could post videos to YouTube of your products with your website address at the bottom of the screen.
On Social Media Making The Sale is Not The Main Objective

It is important to understand that people (your potential customers) do not join social media sites to spend money. They are there to reconnect with old friends and family, make new friends, research products and get recommendations from their friends and family.

They are not there to be sold and they will quickly block you or delete you if they feel like that is your main objective.

So knowing this, how can a retail business benefit?

You must focus on building a relationship! People need to know you, then they start to like you, then hopefully they will start to trust you and at that point, once they trust you, they will buy from you. They are then referred to as qualified buyers. They have already made up their mind that you are a good person for them to do business with.

Top 3 things to do or not do with social media!

1. Add value to their life – You can do this by sharing valuable information. Not just about your products or services but about things related to your industry. Let's say for example that you own that monogram shop I was talking about – maybe you can find articles or videos about babies or weddings or back to school that would add value to your potential customers life. Not necessarily about monogramming but if it was that would be helpful.

2. Use social media to build your leading authority (expert) status – People prefer to buy from those they think are experts in their field. How can you do this?

  • You could blog and post your blog entries on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and any of the many other sites.
  • You could make videos and post them to YouTube and then to all the other sites.
  • You could write a short book or ebook about your industry.

3. Don't try to sell to them – do things to move your relationship off of the social media sites to sell.

  • Offer them something for free to opt-in to your email list. Yes retail stores should have a mailing list.
  • Post your blog entries so that they will visit your website and once there check out your products and services.
  • Create contests or challenges to get them involved with you off of the social media sites.

Social media sites offer you, as the retail business owner, the ability to expand globally. The number of people on them at any one time is staggering. Do yourself a favor and pay attention to what is going on in the world of social media.

Mobile phones are no longer only a communication device; they have emerged to be complete fun and entertainment device with inbuilt games, music, camera etc. Mobile game development is no longer a niche and restricted territory. Each day, mobile game developers are churning out ever interesting and interactive applications. Be it iPhone games or for other handsets, these entertainment apps have come a long way since the first game Snake made its debut in the 1997. With increase in the processing capabilities of mobile phone, mobile gaming has grown leaps and bounds.

One of the emerging trends in the mobile industry is the java games. These days, such apps are being released with multiplayer options with some going 3D, which is being touted as the benchmark of future games. Mobile gaming has thus become a multi-billion dollar industry. Gone are those days when mobile gaming meant a few fun apps installed in the handset.

Some of the corporate houses use these games for promotional activities. They outsource their custom development projects to offshore development centers that develop promotional games. Game developers add heavy 'call to action' factor in these games, which increases the revenue, and brand value of these corporates. One of the key advantages of outsourcing is low cost of development owing to tremendous competition in the market.

Popular Mobile Game Development Tools

Website design development reiterates to a process consistent of different steps made for launching a website and making it popular. This is done for designing a webpage, getting it started on the World Wide Web and making it successful by increasing its ranking and visibility. All this seems to be easy but it is not easy at all. There are a lot of things that needs to care of while doing website design development as even a slightest mistake can destroy everything. This is why it is highly recommended taking professional help in this regard.

Activities Included in Website Design Development

Website design development revolves around following major activities. All these activities are done by IT experts.

Domain Registration

This is the first and foremost activity being done. A domain name is bought for the webpage. The name should be related to your business or products so that people can easily get an idea about your business just by seeing your domain name. Following are some major characteristics of a good domain name.

  • Unique
  • Easy to read
  • Simple
  • Relevant

Website Creation

Website is being created and designed after getting the domain name. These are the two most important activities done at initial level. Both of them require technical knowledge and expertise. Professional IT developers give different website templates to select from. You must select the one that suits your business and your products. They then practically create a website based on the selected template. The overall theme, design and layout are finalized before adding content into it.

Logo Design

A website only looks professional if it has a business logo on it. Logo designers are given the duty of developing a unique yet attractive logo for the business that can be placed on the main page of the website.

Website Hosting

A website primarily starts working after getting connected with the World Wide Web. There are various companies that offer web hosting services. You have to consult any of these companies for launching your webpage on the internet.

What is ecommerce? This is a question that I have been
asked many times by people. I think that the main reason
for this is that in the information age today nearly
everything is internet based. If you look at how we used to
transact in the past you will notice a significant
difference.

Ecommerce has had a huge impact in our lives. If you need
insurance you can get this over the web, if you need to do
grocery shopping you can order over the internet and if you
need any electrical appliance, books or dvds you can buy
from an online store like Amazon. If you operate a business
and have not considered using ecommerce your competitors
will leave you behind.

Most people these days first do their research on the
internet and once they have completed this research they
will transact over the web primarily because it is very
convenient. By definition ecommerce is transacting using
internet technologies.

This could be selling products online like an online store
with a shopping cart and accepting payment via credit cards
or electronic checks. EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) with
the relevant suppliers and customers for example you could
have a marketplace where companies can order stationary
from stationary agents and order in bulk. This will pass
significant savings to the purchaser. This will streamline
your business processes using workflow systems that will
assimilate your business intelligence.

There are two main types of ecommerce. These are B2B which
is business to business ecommerce and B2C which is business
to consumer ecommerce.

Let us look at the main advantages of implementing
ecommerce in your business. If you can produce a high
converting ecommerce site then you will create a profitable
stream. This will also reduce the cost of the order as
traditional paper based orders have a higher cost to
process. You will also gain access to a much larger
customer base as you are not limited by a physical store as
geographic boundaries would have been removed.

The sooner that you implement ecommerce in your business
the sooner you will be able to reap the rewards.

When it comes to creating an application for your business, some of the most popular choices include Android application development and an app for the iPhone. Many users and businesses think that the iPhone is a better choice because it is the market leader in terms of application volume. However, Android application development may be the better option for you.

First of all, Android has come a long way since the opening of its application store, the Android Market. Almost every major developer is releasing their applications for both the iPhone and Android. Because of this, Android is catching up quickly and growing at a very fast rate. In addition, all the latest smartphones are using the Android engine and there are more Android users now.

Secondly, Android is open source. This allows developers and users to customize Android to their liking. This is one of the reasons why Android is gaining an edge with developers who can write software according to their rules and are not limited by the operating system.

Because of its open source nature, Android may be the better choice for companies. Should the company want to go with Android application development, they will have many options available to them that will also allow their staff to make the customizations they need. These customizations may be key in helping staff maximize the application as they will be able to use it according to their role in the company.

Fourth, the good thing about Android is that it supports Flash. While it is not perfect and may not display everything correctly, it does a pretty good job. Flash videos are currently not supported on the iPhone. So if your development plans include Flash, then you may want to go with the Android operating system.

Finally, you can integrate Gmail and Google Calendar with the Android. Many people use these two applications and will benefit from going with the Android. Although this may not be a big deal for a lot of users, those that use these apps regularly will want to go with the OS that allows them access.

More and more phones are using the Android operating system and many prefer Android because it allows many options for users. So if you want to develop an app, you may want to go with Android Application Development though it always helps to have an app on multiple platforms.
