In website design it is important to utilize all tools at your disposal effectively. One of the most useful parts of web design is the design of a good css page. Cascading style sheets are a critical part of any good web design and can provide the backbone for a great website. There are a variety of ways in which they can be utilized to assist in good web design.

The beauty of css is in its simplicity. It provides the platform to really tidy up your website with minimum effort. Furthermore it is extremely easy to learn.

Basic Visual Aspects

Without it the process of organizing and designing the layout of multiple pages would be a slow and arduous process. It allows the developer to apply a set of standards to a set of web pages simply by linking to the css file in the head of each HTML page. This can be applied to the body, background, font, paragraph elements, etc. Through this, the developer can make changes to the sites theme and appearance simply by making changes once in the style sheet page.

Easy Maintenance

Another obvious benefit is that well constructed css makes for easy website maintenance. Unless an issue is restricted to only one page then it can probably be dealt with via the css. As a result there is far less time scrawling through multiple pages for a problem. Furthermore if someone other than the author is altering the site then it is far easier to get to grips with the site design through this.

Inline and External CSS

CSS is also not limited simply to a single externally linked page. In most websites this page controls the priority page formatting, but there are options to apply it differently. It is sometimes the case that one particular page may require a different set of standards from the others. Usefully css can be applied 'inline'. That is to say that it can be set up only to apply one page, a section of a page or even just a single page element. It's that versatile.

Advanced CSS

Clearly css will remain critical to website design and is a big part of promoting a website within SEO UK. In the not too distant future it looks very much like css will see further improvements.

Some developers are looking into object orientated css while browsers are quickly trying to adapt to new functionality which will be available in css3 such as transform and animation properties.

Social media is a very new aspect of our businesses that has taken over significant parts of not only our marketing plans but also our personal lives.

Major platforms battle for prominence and significance by adjusting their business models to provide better returns for their shareholders while intending to improve the user experience.

As these systems develop, how you use these platforms for your business must change as well.

Social Media ROI

While certain trends are consistent, subtle variables at play can become game changers. Recently Facebook has announced adjustments to its news feed and if that matters to your social media marketing then you will need to account for that change.

For that platform brands and businesses will now have an even harder time connecting to users with no previous demonstrated connection to the company trying to reach them.

When Facebook originally started it was a free-for-all and at that point everyone marketing online pounced. But year after year it became harder and harder to reach any users organically through their feed.

Now even the paid reach will be more restricted making it even harder to drive traffic from posts to your business's page or website.

If you measure the ROI of your social media efforts with an emphasis just on the Facebook platform then you may be alarmed when you see the stats start to change.

So how do you measure the return on your investment in social media?

According to Buffer, most measure by analyzing engagement with lead generation being second place and a sale being third.

As we all know measuring a conversion can be very simple or very complex but for most small businesses, it's the former and amounts to 'did they buy from us?' or 'did they contact us?

Moving forward the value of a lead may take precedence over engagement as platforms make it easier to qualify where the lead came from and how the user started in one place (social media) and wound up in another (your website).

Video Marketing

Another aspect that continues to attempt to move into a more prevalent spot is video marketing.

In 2016 and 2017 many predictions were made about video becoming more and more relevant to businesses. Many companies have started, and some closed, whose sole offerings were pre-made videos that could be updated for a business or brand to use.

The market hasn't shown that businesses are warming to that and many small businesses simply shy away from the cost, effort, and risks associated with trying to produce professional quality video with a small budget.

It's not impossible to do but it can go badly very easily. As a result, video marketing is still struggling to lure companies in. Though in Buffer's same analysis, the users they polled stated they are interested in doing more video this year.

What Should Your Business Do?

If you're planning on adapting to trends, then two things genuinely stand out. While there is no shortage of opinions, most self-appointed experts or gurus are guilty of self promoting while hoping their particular specialty will become more relevant.

Ask a video marketer and they'll tell you it's all video and YouTube. Ask a Facebook ads specialist and they'll tell you it's all about Facebook ads now.

The truth is the only two big stand outs that have shown they're providing better results are Instagram (and Instagram stories specifically) and LinkedIn ads. Instagram's user base has grown dramatically and LinkedIn will soon be offering video ads leading to increased relevance for both.

You may have a budget already set for your social media spending, but remember those are never fixed. Adjust and try attributing more to different platforms to gauge how effective it is for your business.

While it may seem laborious it's really not that hard to take an afternoon to read up on any recent changes and adjust your spending accordingly.

If you find yourself too busy to bother or hung up by the complexity, it's good to reach out to social media experts.

They can work with your SEO consultant, or if you don't have one, they may have a recommendation in making your social media work for you to avoid just pumping out content for the sake of having it and hoping it will do something for you .

Make 2018 the year you really pay attention to your social media because more and more of your competitors are.

Getting ahead of them requires adapting to change rather than resisting. Once you do you'll see much better results from your online marketing.

If you are brand new to using social media for your business and are ready to start but not sure where or how then please sign up for our Social Media Membership Program. It's a cost effective and easy way to work with industry professionals while you study the ins and outs of social media, video, and online marketing.

When it comes to your website, design matters. You want a site that will catch the attention of viewers, but a really good site does much more than that. You can have all the flash and dash in the world but if your website isn't easy to navigate or leaves the viewer wondering about anything, it has failed. The key to making all components work is to hire an experienced web designer . Easier said than done? Check out our tips on hiring a web design company for your business or organization.

Know What to Look For

You may think they're all the same but there are a few key differences between web designers, web developers and Internet marketers. Web designers are experts at determining layout, graphics, text and navigation of the site, responsible for creating graphics, colors and fonts, says Forbes Online. Website developers pick up from there and write the code to actually implement all those components. Internet marketers focus on boosting traffic to the site through practices like SEO. However, these days, no one can take such a singular approach; therefore, oftentimes professionals in this realm will handle all of the above phases as one unit.

Reputation

Word-of-mouth is one of the best ways to find a web designer. In fact, Forbes says this is the single best way to ensure a good match: getting a recommendation from someone you know in the business. Why? The designer will have more incentive to do an amazing job, knowing he comes highly recommended by a friend or colleague. That accountability can spur the professional on, as he is aware you're in contact with his clients. On your end, you get greater confidence in the designer's ability to handle the task because he comes with glowing reviews from a trusted source.

Portfolio

Of course, this doesn't mean you don't have to go through all the other items on your check list. Always check out a potential web designer's portfolio . This is a collection of website designs the professional has created in the past, and consequently, this is where you'll know at once if a designer is right for you. If your styles match up, then move on to the next steps in your search.

Proposal

It's smart to get a written statement of work or proposal that outlines the entire process, from budget and timeline of project to the minutiae of what will go into your website. This document will outline exactly what the web designer will build so that everyone is on the same page from the get-go. It will include the objective of your website, number of pages, custom headers, image rotations, custom forms, image gallery's; anything that will on the website from brochures and e-commerce tools to sign ups and selling tools.

Research

In your quest for the best designer, you can never do enough research. If you've narrowed down your search to one designer, don't stop there. Research their competitors so you can visually illustrate examples of your likes and dislikes. Once you've hit all these steps, you can be confident you're choosing the right web designer for your business.

Website trends have always kept changing depending on user's feedback, SEO and coding methods. 2016 has been great for website design with people trying to come up with unique ideas. Here we run down few promising trends that we predict for the coming year:

  • Visual appeal with flat design

Flat design has gained popularity in 2016 and will become even more popular in 2017. In flat design the sections are arranged next to each other neatly which makes the website easy to interact with. Clean appearance which has been liked by users visually will be a major focus. Simplicity will be the key to make the website visually appealing.

  • Responsive design everywhere

Knowing the benefits of responsive websites, developers have embraced this change more since past 2 years. There will be hardly any websites that will be non-responsive. The design approach will always have mobile view in mind. UI patterns will be created such that they are not very difficult to align them in responsive view. User's journey will be the prime focus for desktop, smartphones and tablets.

  • Video banner

I am personally not a fan of auto play videos on websites but video backgrounds are gaining immense popularity since few months. Having video slider along with image slider is a versatile marketing trend which will rise in 2017. Users are liking the idea of instantly watching the video to gain information about the company.

  • Less use of stock photos

Its high time to change the same old idea of stuffing stock photos in the site. Some photos are so common that they are seen on many other websites also. Customers will be more picky about having unique images for their brand. People are tired of seeing typical bespoke stock images and hence original custom photos will be welcomed.

  • Bold typography and colors

We have seen rich colors being quite a rage in 2016 which is a nice stereotype break from the typical web standard colors. The trend has finally changed. Brands will make efforts to look unique and showcase clearly who they are. We will have more bold choice of typography too. The typography will be make statements, clear and sharper. We will see big hero image with a beautiful big typography with nice animations and layers in the text.

  • Less full parallax websites

We have seen a lot of parallax website in past 2-3 years. This trend is about to vanish because of its side effects with SEO. Parallax websites are usually long one page websites which do not generate URLs separately for inner pages and hence are not crawled by search engines. Also the use of heavy script reduces the speed of the site and mobile view is not so good either. Parallax is not going anywhere. Rather it will be used smartly for certain sections of the site for that excellent Visual treat.

With the above trends, 2017 seems to be a great year ahead for interesting website concepts to come into market. Creative thinkers are likely to experiment more and build fresh looking websites.

Search Engine Optimization has become a vital part of any online marketing campaign. A company will not have any successful campaign without targeted, high-quality content. There are many different approaches for maximizing online visibility. Some of them have proven to be more effective than others and we will discuss them here.

The so-called "white-hat" SEO refers to techniques used to increase page rankings through means that do not violate the search engines' terms of service. Basically it refers to building and keeping an active audience through quality content and backlinks. So, the first SEO factor that must be taken into consideration is engagement. That is the ability to hold a user's attention and measures the amount of time spent on a page.

There are difference metrics related to engagement: number of visits, bounce rate, time of site, page views. And there are many SEO tools that provide the exact numbers. Improving the quality of the content will improve these numbers and will make the website rank higher.

A good website must also have good formatting. This will improve readability and overall engagement. Studies have shown that several formatting rules always make content more readable and eye-appealing:

– Shorter paragraphs. Each paragraph should have 2-3 sentences. This will boost readability considerably.

– Shorter sentences. Having to read a very long sentence is eye-fatiguing and can be an instant turn off for many users. You should try to break longer sentences into smaller ones when possible.

– Sub-headers. Many of us are used to quickly scan a page and look for exactly what we need. Providing relevant sub-headers for the content will make users reach where they wanted to and keep their attention.

– Bullet points. It is recommended to use bullet points when listing data. Besides being aesthetically appealing, it will also keep a user engaged and provide a fast reading mechanism.

Performing regular keyword researches is the base of SEO. You cannot have a competitive website if you do not provide what users want. Numerous applications were developed in order to provide statistical data. Search engines also provide applications that reflect what people searched the most.

Building backlinks is essential for any website wanting to rank high on search pages. Having good backlinks means linking relevant content in and out of a website. Links that are received due to high-quality content, outreach and influence marketing, are safe and extremely effective.

To define the term Social Media Marketing let's first analyze the definition of each word that makes up the term itself.

The word 'social' implies that communication is occurring between two parties and the term 'media' is simply the platform or method by which people are 'doing' social. And 'marketing' is the act of promoting products and services that lead to sales opportunities.

To summarize, Social Media Marketing is the process of promoting people, brands, products or services using Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn.

While the principles of marketing remain, the strategies and psychology of marketing on each platform can be vastly different.

From a business perspective, each Social Media website serves one or more purposes as a marketing medium, the use of which depends on the target market you wish to communicate with (and sell to).

Let's look at each of these platforms individually …

Facebook

Facebook, the most popular of the Social Media websites has essentially two sides. Firstly, from a purely social perspective, it allow any individual to join and find, connect and communicate with anyone they choose, whether they are existing friends, school or university colleagues, family members, work collections and more.

The second side to Facebook is the business side. Facebook allows the creation of a 'Facebook Page' to anyone, but for business owners, they represent an opportunity to promote their products and services.

A Facebook Page is now an essential marketing tool for businesses of all shapes and sizes. They allow businesses the ability to attract 'fans' (past, present or future customers) as well as interact with these fans on the Facebook Page itself, primarily on the 'Wall' page.

A Facebook Page has multiple pages just like a normal business website would. The default pages contained within a brand new Facebook Page are; Wall, Info, Photos.

Business owners can also setup advertising within Facebook to drive visitors to the business's Facebook Page as a way of attracting more customers.

Twitter

Twitter is what's known as a 'Micro-Blog'. Micro meaning small and a Blog is like a news-feed containing information about a person, company, topic, industry etc., etc.

Twitter allows you to 'post' information of 140 characters in length about anything you wish. While it's true purpose is unknown it serves as a broadcast medium for businesses, individuals, celebrities or anyone who wants to voice their option or expertise about any subject they choose.

YouTube

YouTube is a video sharing website and due to its popularity and vast resource of information on just about any topic you can imagine, has become the second largest search engine (after Google). This means that people use YouTube to search for video content about any topic they wish to search for. It's no doubt that online video one of the primary ways our society uses as a way to communicate, learn, share and engage with others.

YouTube allows anyone the ability to upload a video of their choosing onto their own YouTube account for public or private viewing.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn serves two purposes. The first, it's a way for job seekers (or employers) to connect with each other.

Secondly, it's a business tool that allows business owners the ability to connect with and build a 'network' of contacts. Thinking of it like a business networking group, located online.

You can use LinkedIn to be introduced to someone via an existing contact in your network. It can be a powerful tool if your business is B2B.

Your choice of Social Media platform to choose to market yourself, your company or your products and services should be dictated by the type of customer you wish to connect with as well as the type of engagement and interaction you wish to have with the person.
