Magento is among the most popular e-commerce platforms of the world. Developers prefer Magento over other platforms because it provides them an option to customize settings according to their needs and requirements. Large businesses prefer Magento because it is powerful and they have got a big spending budget to pay yearly fees for Premium Enterprise subscription. Magento is an ideal choice for global brands as it provides all the necessary features to benefit global shopping carts. Adding products to a Magento store is not a very difficult task. An easy method given below can help the users who want to add products to their shopping cart.

Step 1

Firstly, open the page of your website that contains products and then return to Quick-start wizard. Now make a click on "Create New Products" from the Products menu. You will be given a detailed list of information about how you can manage all the products on Magento. After reading this information, click on Continue.

Step 2

Select the product type. Now you will be asked if you wish to use the Complex Product Types. It will also ask you for an Attribute Set. For now, select default for the Attribute Set.

The option for Complex Product Types lets you list group products, gift cards, configurable products and bundled products. For now, we will only make an addition of a simple product, so let this option remain de-selected.

Now make a click on Continue.

Step 3

Now you will be asked to fill in all the product details. Such details include the name of product, product's description, delivery details, SKU and weight. Fill in all these details.

For the description of product, turn on and use a WYSIWYG Editor (What You See Is What You Get). Turning on this editor will enable the word processing options like paragraph formatting, italic and bold text. Alternatively, you can also write directly in the description box with html text.

Options for special products include Visibility and Status. Visibility allows the user to specify whether any specific product can be seen in catalog, search bar or in both. Status allows the user to select whether or not the specific product is enabled in the store.

When you are done, make a click on Save and then Continue Edit.

Step 4

Add images and prices. To add images for products, click Images from menu in the left side. Select Browse Files in order to add a desired picture from your computer.

After selecting the image, click Upload File.

Now you can select thumbnail, base image and small image for the uploaded image.

Click Save and then Continue Edit.

For adding price to the product, click Prices from the menu on left hand side. Complete all the required fields and then click Save.

Step 5

Now add Meta Information. Click Meta Information from the menu given on left hand side. Select the description and title for search engines.

Instead of telling you just how easy it is to install WordPress into your site, I'll go over the steps to install it and let you decide for yourself. Depending on your host, your steps may vary slightly, but these steps are valid for most major webhosts.

Without further ado, here are the steps to install WordPress into your webhosting account with cPanel and Fantastico:

  1. Log into your cPanel
  2. Go to the section called "Fantastico"
  3. Under Fantastico, find the link to WordPress
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions for WordPress
  5. Give WP its own directory
  6. After the installation completes, log into the admin panel and you're good to go

In case you're wondering about the requirements that your hosting account needs to meet, here they are:

  1. You need to have access to create MySQL databases. Without getting down and dirty into definitions, MySQL is the database system that WordPress needs on the back end in order to work.
  2. You need php. Php is a web programming language that acts as the front end that lets your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) interact with the MySQL backend that WordPress stores the data on.
  3. Your hosting, should run on linux. This is the operating system of the host computer that WordPress lives on. It doesn't matter if your home / office computer is a Mac, a PC, or a Linux computer. You will be able to "talk" to your WordPress site through your web browser.
  4. I suggest looking for a host that provides you with cPanel. Why? Because cPanel offers you the ability to install WordPress with a few clicks and a minimum of typing even if Fantastico is not installed by your host.
  5. If you don't have cPanel, you may need to ask your hosting provider to install WordPress for you.
  6. You can manually install WordPress, but it's not really necessary and beyond the scope of this article.

Those are the requirements for WordPress. Think of these requirements as the equivalent requirements of "your car needs gas to run and air in the tires" if you're going to drive somewhere.

The last thing that shoppers want, especially when they're cramming for last-minute presents during the holiday season, is an excruciating checkout process.

Nothing can be more frustrating than having to fill out a form which they have previously supplied with their payment information and shipping addresses. To many people, it's just pointless to waste their time on a repetitive task which a store owner obviously has to find a solution to.

Thanks to Amazon whose 1-click patent expired in September this year, Magento has become the first eCommerce platform to offer a similar feature in their checkout process to ease the checkout experience of customers and boost the conversion rates of online sellers like you.

The new Instant Purchase button helps speed up checkout, especially during important shopping events like Black Friday and Christmas as every minute of your customer's shopping activity counts.

It spares repeat customers the trouble of re-entering their payment methods and shipping addresses, a grueling process which discourages many from completing their checkout as it eats up so much time.

A one-click checkout reduces cart abandonment

The average cart abandonment rate back in 2016, according to Magento, was 70 percent or even higher when mobile shoppers are to be taken into account. That figure is expected to climb in the years to come as mobile devices are increasingly changing the way people shop online.

Did you know over 50% of online shoppers shop either in the toilet or in the bedroom?

Since they cannot possibly use a laptop or a desktop computer in the toilet without getting it soaked, they, of course, use their ever reliable smartphones or tablets to shop. By the time they step out of the bathroom, their orders are already being processed.

However, if they get stuck on the checkout page of your website, then that becomes a massive problem.

Now now, getting stuck doesn't only mean a page freezes or a button isn't working. Asking your customer to put their payment details and shipping address in a checkout form, which they already filled out during a previous purchase, is a form of impediment.

Using and modifying Instant Purchase

Magento's new button not only provides your customers ease of checkout, but also gets them to buy more.

That's the beauty of liberating them from repetitive forms to fill out.

Once a customer clicks on Instant Purchase, it automatically places their order using their previously-stored data and takes them at once to a confirmation page.

Note that the text on the button is totally customisable, so put anything on it that reflect your business.

The Instant Purchase feature, according to Jason Woosley, senior vice president of product and technology at Magento Commerce, is just one of the many tools which their company has created to address the growing needs of people who shop online.

"This milestone is yet another proof point of the combined power of our platform and global ecosystem in providing cutting-edge technologies customers need to react to changing market dynamics," he explained.

Do you already have the Instant Purchase button in your Magento store's checkout area? How has it improved your conversion rate?

If you are a website designer, or are starting up a website or a blog for the first time, you have probably started to realize that WordPress is most definitely the best website design platform available today. Some website designers have given other web hosting platforms a try, but ultimately come back to WordPress based on all of the features listed below that make it such a compelling solution for websites that require sales or lead generation performance.

• Content distribution engine – when configured properly (most people don't) WordPress is a content distribution engine. We configure WordPress websites to distribute to search engines, ping sites, social media sites, social bookmarking sites and RSS aggregator sites. This sends each blog post to more than 10,000 sites! You can find your post in Google within a few minutes.

• Plugins – WordPress has what amounts to an endless supply of available plugins for you to apply to your website. These are all easy to download and apply to your website, and they are completely free! No matter what your website needs in terms of functionality, WordPress usually has the plugin you will need so you don't need to write custom software to do this.

• Themes – Website designers know that one of the most important aspects of creating an attractive website is the availability of nice looking themes. WordPress has thousands of themes, which are all completely customizable to meet the needs of your specific website design. The themes are available in open format, 1 column, 2 columns, 3 columns, many different colors and graphics.

• Cost – You can set up free websites or blogs on WordPress.com, however, the serious business or website designer can set up their own domain name (and a premium or professionally custom designed website theme if desired) with a WordPress website at a hosting company for under $ 60 a year. That is a small investment for a business tool that end up being a major source of income and business lead generation.

• Intra-Site Linking – For both search engine optimization (SEO) and usability purposes it is ultra important to have a solid linking scheme for the pages of your website. WordPress links pages through SEO-friendly menus and special pages like tags, categories and archives as well as blog widgets like tag clouds, most recent posts and most recent comments.

• Simplicity – WordPress is extremely user-friendly. Even the newest website designer can easily install WordPress with a click. It is not necessary for a new website designer to know anything at all about computers in order to use WordPress to host their websites. Once it is installed, you just have to log into your account, add a page or blog post and start editing. It's as simple as using a word processor like Microsoft Word.

• Easily Customizable – Once you have your website (s) up and running with WordPress, it is extremely simple to customize your WordPress web design. Website designers will love all of WordPress's widgets that allow simple drag and drop designing with ease. You will find that you can literally do almost anything with WordPress's design capabilities.

Magento platform has been adopted by more than 180 000 online retailers and ran on 11% of the top 10K sites in the Quantcast data (BuiltWith Trends, 2013).

Magento Community Edition (Magento CE) is the free version of Magento, which is known as a platform built on open-source technology and provides online merchants with unpresented flexibility and control over the look, content and functionality of their e-commerce store.

At the present time, Magento CE has been considered to be one of the best free e-commerce platforms. Thus, in this article, I would like to give you an overview about the pros and cons of this platform.

Advantages of the Magento Community Edition

1. Open Source

Despite of being a free platform, Magento CE is open source. It gives users opportunity to freely modify the code to fit individuals' needs, which brings ultimate flexibility to adopt your business. This is a huge advantage compared to other e-Commerce platforms.

2. Wide range of functionalities

Magento is famous for the number of functionalities it provides. Most of users considering choosing Magento CE for their e-store because of this reason. Magento covers all of the aspects any store owners may insist on (site design, products, payments, shipping and more), so it is a good base to start with. In addition, the platform is evolving all the time and there are countless Magento templates, themes as well as Magento extensions, plugins, and widgets available on the market.

It's interesting how the script allows for running multiple stores at one time from one administration panel. Another example of Magneto's extra capabilities is the ability to set a template for a given product that will make this product to present to a client differently than other products at the same time period.

3. Community

Magento has a growing community of passionate and dedicated developers, users, and providers. So what do you benefit from this? Please note that Magento CE is a free edition, so the support from Magento's technical team is quite limited. Users help each other by sharing knowledge and experience on forums, blogs all over the world. Let's image that the answers for common problems are easily accessible and help is on hand no matter how bespoke your requirements are.

Disadvantages of the Magento Community Edition

1. The usage of PHP

A big drawback of Magento is the usage of PHP. The Magento application can consume gigabytes of RAM during heavy processes, and PHP often can not handle the load, regardless of how much hardware is thrown at it.

2. Not for amateurs

This platform is quite complex so it is not the solution for a beginner with no technical skills. Even an experienced developer will need quite time to learn Magento step by step before being certified. Magento is designed as an enterprise Java application, but its codebase is written in PHP. Thus, if you are not familiar with Java or PHP Zend Framework, it takes months to learn and use this platform. To be honest, finding a qualified Magento developer is not an easy task.

3. Magento Community edition versus Magento Enterprise edition

There are some differences between the paid and the free editions of Magento: Marketing is the strong base in Magento Community design, but the design of Magento Enterprise focuses more on technical aspects than on marketing aspect. Beside, the support for code and additional plug-ins / modules are not the same. Firstly, the Enterprise edition comes with a warranty and service level agreement, legal protection and all fixes to the code will be made first in it. Secondly, some useful additional features are only available in the Enterprise edition such as private sales, access to back-end and store credit functions.

So, do you think Magento CE is a suitable platform to build your own store?

I hope that this article gives you an insight into the Magento Community edition and is helpful for you in choosing a proper platform. If you have used Magento or others, share with us your experience!

How do you identify the best WordPress developer from a pool of programmers? A dedicated WordPress developer is capable of pushing the boundaries, going beyond the basics and bringing innovations in the project they are assigned. Professional WordPress developers are always busy in researching more about the latest trends and technologies to remain ahead of their peers.

Here are the top 5 qualities of an efficient WordPress developer:

  1. Technical Skillset

A good WordPress developer will have apt knowledge of different technologies and be able to create a masterpiece. An ideal WordPress developer should have sound knowledge of PHP, MySQL, codebase on Trac and Xref and should allow to set up a local development environment and run the nightly build. They must be well-versed with the technicalities of WordPress such as core, plugins as well as the different themes to be able to create a website, which would help you stay ahead in the competition.

  1. Learner's Mindset

The versions of WordPress are steadily moving forward, and so is the environment. A good developer should keep up with the latest design, technology and security trends to build websites, which are stable and modern. An outdated look or a bugged portal will tarnish your brand image. A stagnant developer will cause stagnation in your business profits and in your image too.

  1. Attention and Self-Motivation

WordPress professionals need to continue push their abilities and have a fair idea of almost all the aspects of this platform. WordPress offers a wide range of options such as plugins, themes, front-end design and e-commerce. Therefore, a developer has to have hands-on, specialized knowledge to figure out what would work best for a project. A self-motivated developer will ensure that his work stands out in the crowd and does not just make up the numbers.

  1. Solid Planning Skills

A brilliant developer would be able to sort out a chaos and make something out of nothing. However, lack of planning can become a serious problem – a directionless agenda that can result in delays in project delivery and waste of time and energy. An efficient programmer will have a schedule in place and will outline goals – both big and small. They will break down tasks and create as well as adhere to timelines.

  1. Testing and Receiving Feedback

Thoroughly testing everything that is dispatched is an important skill of any WordPress developer. They should be sure whatever codes they write work across different browsers and operating systems. Every theme and plugin must be tested across different browsers to avoid last minute hassles. Asking for feedback is a good way to know whatever you've created makes sense and reacting positively to feedback shows maturity and dedication towards one's creation. Your project is in good hands if you manage to hire a developer with these skills.

WordPress is an ever-evolving platform. The core team is always on their toes, trying new things and trying to improve the existing functionalities.

If you're looking for an easy to use web design software that will not take you a couple light years figuring out how to operate, then keep reading. Today we're going to go over a few things you should keep in mind when looking for an "easy to use" web design software.

1.WYSIWYG

WYSIWYG is the acronym for What You See Is What You Get. It's a system that allows for non-technical users to design and build web pages without knowing any HTML. The most common web design software that uses WYSIWYG technology is Microsoft Frontpage, followed by Adobe Dreamweaver.

While these types of web design software can help the non-technical user to create a simple website, the learning curve for more complex websites will likely turn off many non-technical users.

2. Web vs. Desktop Software

We've already talked about software such as Frontpage and Dreamweaver, these are considered to be desktop software because you download it to your personal computer and install it on your hard drive.

These days we have the option to also choose web based software that resides on another computer other than yours. One of the most popular examples of this is a product called SiteBuildIt!

Web site design software that is web-based will typically be pretty easy to use, but they can also be somewhat pricey considering they usually charge a monthly or yearly charge to use their software or "script".

3. WordPress CMS

WordPress is not a web design software. It what's called a "content management system" (CMS). So why then am I mentioning it in this article? Because you can create a pretty technical website / blog without knowing a lick of code.

Since WordPress is "open source" we all have the luxury of benefitting from the hard work 1,000's of programmers put in to create specialized WordPress plugins that make it easy for the average joe to bring cutting edge functionality to his web site or blog.

Another benefit to WordPress is that you can easily change the "design" of your entire web site or blog simply by changing out your "theme" with the click of a couple buttons.

In conclusion, it's important to keep in mind that while there are many "easy to use" web design software solutions one could use to create his or her own web site, you'll need to examine your own situation to determine which solution is right for you.

If funds are limited, but still want unlimited possibilities, I would look into WordPress, but hey I do not need to tell you twice, right?

WordPress is changing the way people setup and use a website. WordPress is revolutionizing the web design industry and allows anyone to easily set up their own website. The challenge is that by default WordPress is very blog orientated. One of the first things you'll notice is that the homepage displays posts instead of pages.

So what do you do when your client does not want to blog and the theme's homepage has a whole bunch of empty posts? You need to get WordPress to switch from posts to a page, but how? If your WordPress theme is currently displaying posts but you want it to display regular editable content, it's easy change to make. First start by adding a new page and giving it a title. To add a page simply click on add new, under the pages menu.

Now add your page title and your homepage text then save it by clicking the publish button. The next step is to go to the reading link under the settings main menu. Once there, select a static page and then select the page you just added in the front page menu. Then click the save changes button to save your new options. Now go look at your website's homepage, it will now have the content that you added to that static page!
You can go back and edit the homepage content at anytime by editing the new page.

It could not be easier, except if you saw the screen shots that went along with this.

You've probably already heard how WordPress is a very popular platform for bloggers, and chances are, a major of the blogs you read every day were created with WordPress. While it is the best blogging software available, thanks to some great theme developers, WordPress has now also become arguably the best platform for business websites.

WordPress is very easy to learn how to use, very easy to customize and scale to your business, is incredibly affordable, and lets you chose your own hosting company (opposed to getting ripped off for hosting by hosted website solutions). WordPress.org software is free, and you can then easily add themes (other known as templates) that integrate perfectly with WordPress, letting you get virtually any type of website up and running within minutes. WordPress themes can let you have better websites than people and companies that pay thousands of dollars to developers to build their websites. Best of all, outstanding premium WordPress themes usually cost under $ 100. I've personally spent well over $ 100 a month for hosted website software that was honestly not as good as WordPress. Using WordPress can easily save you or your company a ton of cash that can be better used to market your business.

7 Steps to Finding the Perfect WordPress Theme for Your Business

1. Decide on the type of business website you are looking for. This may sound obvious, but there are WordPress themes available for a wide variety of businesses, from corporate websites, to directory sites, news & magazine sites, eCommerce businesses, daily deal sites, photography websites and much more. There are some WordPress themes available that are so good that they might even encourage you to start a type of business you had not even considered!

2. Decide on must-have features for your website. Most themes have standard features such as multiple color schemes, giving you the ability to easily customize things like fonts and colors, and some pre-designed page templates, but are features such as Advanced Search, integration with Google Maps, Image Sliders, or the ability to sell digital products important to your business? In other words, focus on key features that might be specific to your business, or maybe features that would be a great improvement over your current website.

3. Decide on what type of style best suites your brand. Do you want to portray your company as professional, fun, modern or high-tech? What about minimalist, artsy, bold or retro? Do you want your website to be clean and organized or have more of a grungy look?

4. Decide on a your preferred website layout. This one is a bit tricky, since many of the best WordPress themes may have one layout by default, but give you the option to easily choose from various layout options. If you do not love the default layout of a specific theme, but it has all the features you are looking for, you might want to check whether the theme includes multiple layout options. Also, it is often worth deciding whether you want a blog-type layout (generally with a widget-based sidebar on the right and comment fields below your posts) or more of a professional layout. Having a standard blog-style layout might work well for news sites (and it encourages discussion from your site visitors), but it may not be appropriate for corporate websites.

5. View theme demos. Browse theme demos as if you were a customer or a potential client. Is the website easy to understand and navigate, well organized and give you the search options you would want? Is it easy to browse photos on the gallery page? Does it give a professional image of the business?

6. Make sure the theme designer provides at least some form of technical support. Some theme companies provide phone service, while others use email or a ticketing system for support, and others use support forums to communicate with customers. Any of these options are typically fine, but make sure they offer some level of support and customer service. WordPress is easy to use and most themes (especially premium themes) work very well, but you can still have issues or encounter bugs once in a while. You want to purchase a theme from a company or individual who will be around to help you if you run into an issue 10 months after you purchase the theme. Technical Support is one of many features you'll get when purchasing a premium free, as opposed to using a free WordPress theme.

7. To save a lot of time, rather than digging through the websites of numerous theme companies, check out a few online marketplaces that aggregate the best WordPress business themes from multiple theme designers into one place.

Summary

When it comes to online marketing, It looks like the focus of every small business these days is on places like Facebook and Twitter. While social media is important, and a great way to communicate with your customers and potential clients, your website is the real face of your business.

I constantly see small businesses spending a lot of money on things like pay-per-click ads, Facebook ads, SEO and more; all of which direct traffic to their websites. When you click through the company's website, you're often satisfied with a stale, confusing and out-of-date website that the company probably paid a good chunk of cash to have built for them in 1992.

You can create the best products, offer the best services, make the best food of any restaurant in your area, or write an amazing e-book, but if your website is not easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to purchase from , you are most likely losing a lot of business. People DO judge a book by it's cover, and your website is that 'cover' – it's often the first impression people have with your business.

I was reminded of this recently as I was searching for a carpenter / contractor to do some work on our house. I searched on Google, clicked on some AdWords ads, and was repeatedly billed to cringe-worthy websites that make me leave their sites within within seconds. My attitude was that if these 'businesses' cared so little about themselves to pay attention to their websites, I did not want to trust them renovating part of my house. They might have been amazing carpenters for all I know, but the first impression they've just immediately turned me off to them.

It is simply so easy and affordable to have a great website these days, that there's no excuse for businesses not to, regardless of what industry they're in. WordPress and other website software options out there make it possible for virtually anyone, with any budget and any level of technical knowledge to have an amazing looking website.
