How Much Will My Website Cost?
Each website design (or re-design) project has its own set of requirements for technology, marketing and ongoing maintenance - each being a cost consideration. Here's some insight on the costs to complete your vision, and a few suggestions to get the wheels turning.
Write down requirements & goals for your web project
Your list doesn't have to be overly detailed, but it will help us understand your vision. If you simply don't know what features and/or functionality will be needed, we're happy to help you work it out! This can be a great way test our new relationship and set expectations of your project's cost and scope.
Determine your ideal budget
Tell us what you are willing - and able - to spend on your website project. This helps us to determine which directions and technologies would be best suited for your project. That said, B2 Computing might not be the lowest bidder for your project. If your decision is solely based on budget, not the quality of your design, content, or user experience, we unfortunately may not be a good fit for you.
Do some research on costs & features
Lots of people claim to be "web designers". With websites, costs and quality of workmanship varies greatly. Maybe your nephew is going to school for computers, or a smooth-talking yellow pages rep offered to bundle a website with your ad, or you've worked with a marketing agency for years. Unless your nephew works at that marketing agency, any of these scenarios can spell disaster for your site!
When interviewing professional web development firms, be sure to ask about their web servers ("Where will my website be hosted, and what will it cost?"), and charges for on-going maintenance. Remember, you get what you pay for. We're just saying.
Sample Website Project
Here's an example of the development time frame for a typical B2 Computing website project.
- Project Management, meetings, and correspondence over an 8-week period: 40 hours
- Research and Information Architecture (competitive analysis, structure, wire frames): 40 hours
- Database and Content Management System setup: 40 hours
- Visual Site Design and Front-End Coding: 30 hours
- Content gathering/migration and training for your staff: 20 hours
- Search Engine Optimization: 20 hours
- Quality, usability and focus group testing: 10 hours
That's a total of 200 hours spread over an 8-week period. On average, a website like this costs between $2,500 and $5,000 to develop. Of course, this is just an example - each estimate we do is completely customized, time frame and cost will vary depending on your specific needs and the project's complexity.
If I build it, they will come
This isn't necessarily the case. Things to consider are SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SEM (Search Engine Marketing), Social Network integration, blogging and adding fresh content on a regular basis, PPC (pay per click) advertising and on-going maintenance.
