B2 Computing's thoughts on SOPA

on Thursday, 19 January 2012. Posted in B2 Computing News

Even after all the "Internet Black-out Day" hype subsides, we at B2 Computing are still concerned about provisions in the proposed law. Besides the obvious risk that any of our clients' websites might receive notice to be taken down without due process if a client happens to post copyrighted images, audio or video (either intentionally or unintentionally), we are also against some of the more technical language that the SOPA/PIPA bill proposes. DNSSEC, which will play a critical role in global future cybersecurity strategy, could be severely compromised. DNSSEC, in short, ensures secure transfer of DNS data from servers to end users, so it makes "man-in-the-middle" and "cache poisoning" attacks much more difficult for hackers. Additionally, DNSSEC provides a good foundation for new online security tools and threat-countering tactics to be developed.
